Venice Beach. LA

When I first arrived at Venice Beach, it felt less like a vacation spot than a vast open-air stadium. The shore was lined with athletic facilities; people played basketball against one another, jogged along the coast, and skated through the ramps. Each found their own way of belonging to the beach through movement. I wanted to hold this dynamic energy and the passion behind each sport in my photographs. While shooting, I kept feeling the urge to join in—to step into the basketball game, to run freely along the sand, to ride the ramps with the skaters.
