Upo, in Gray
In early summer, Upo Wetland moves to a rhythm older than memory. Water lilies drift across dark water, reeds lean into their own reflections, and light gathers and scatters across the surface in patterns the eye can never hold for long. Working in black-and-white analog film, I let color fall away so the marsh could be read through what remains: form, light, and shadow. In gray, a season's green becomes tone rather than hue, and what surfaces is not the look of the wetland but its quiet breathing.
