Jesa

Every year, with the arrival of fall, Hwang relatives gather at Seonsan for “Bulcho” an event to cut the weeds around a grave and, "Jesa," an event to revere our ancestors. Shinning red apples, persimmons, and jujubes are arranged on the leftmost edge of the table, while, on the other side, neatly arranged white pears and chestnuts lie in perfection. It is one part of the ritual that has been performed for centuries.

As one of Korea's most prestigious and oldest households, the Hwang family celebrates our heritage by offering food and showing deep reverence through two gentle bows. After many years of witnessing the preparation for this event, I was finally able to capture my family's long-standing traditions.
